The Cayo District is blessed with the Macal and Mopan Rivers which form the Belize River just outside San Ignacio at Branch Mouth. All are excellent for canoeing with the Mopan being the most challenging.These rivers provide top notch sightseeing opportunities! You’ll see iguanas, numerous species of birds, turtles, and an occasional river otter. We have canoes and guides on-site and can provide drop off and pick up services if you desire to take a trip down the river. Most trips are 1/2 day and you pass by Lower Dover and get to see the "White Cliffs of Dover" Belizean style.
